Batch mix plants can be equipped with a series of accessories for recycling material coming from the demolition of old pavings.

The percentages of materials to be recycled in the mix vary according to the technical solution adopted besides the material itself plus operating conditions (temperature, moisture).

The solutions used mostly are as follows :

Feeding of cold reclaimed material to the foot of the hot elevator, normally used for percentages up to 10-15%.
A volumetric or weigh metering apparatus and conveyor belt are sufficient. The grading screen of the plant is excluded.

Feeding of reclaimed material into the dryer drum through an appropriate recycling ring. This permits percentages of up to 35% to be reached. Feeding is made through a metering apparatus and a conveyor belt and it is possible to guarantee the exact proportions of material, virgin and reclaimed material by adding inter-connected weighing points to the respective feed belts. In this case too the use of the screen is excluded.

Feeding of cold reclaimed material into the virgin aggregate weigh hopper, thus into the mixer, through a surge hopper installed on the mixing tower. The surge hopper is fed through a metering device, a conveyor belt and a bucket elevator. the method is used for percentages up to 20%. The use of the screen is possible.

Combination of the two abovementioned methods (RAP into the drum recycling ring and cold RAP into the mixer) in order to obtain high recycling percentage (up to 40% in total).

Drying and heating of reclaimed material in a special parallel flow dryer drum provided with an external combustion chamber to safeguard bitumen properties as much as possible during the thermic phase.
The material discharged by the dryer is put into a surge hopper which is heated and insulated, from here it is metered in the virgin aggregate weigh hopper. Recycling percentages of up to 50% can be obtained. The use of the screen is still possible.
